Dr. JR Salinas (DMD)
Dr. JR Salinas is back in his community as he grew up in the Maples/Garden City area. He was born in the Philippines and moved to Winnipeg when he was 2 years old. He completed a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry at the University of Winnipeg before pursuing dentistry at the University of Manitoba.
During dental school, Dr. JR was involved in many extracurricular activities and while in his 4th year, he became the president of the University of Manitoba Student association. Dr. JR has also received awards such as the Dr. Norman Levine Undergraduate Dental Student award in pediatric dentistry, the Emerging Leader award, the Dr. H.H. Saunderson Award and the Mary Jane Ego trophy.
Dr. JR values time with his patients and loves getting to know them on a personal level. He believes that every patient is different and requires personalized patient care. He loves the dental profession and his main goal is to provide comfort to patients while maintaining high quality dentistry.
Along with his passion for dentistry, Dr. JR likes to play soccer, go to the gym, cook, travel and spend time with his family and friends. He can also speak and understand Tagalog. Dr. JR is super excited to be back in the area he grew up in and looks forward to giving back to his community!
Dr. Kian Somarin (DMD)
Dr. Kian Somarin spent most of his childhood in Brandon, Manitoba. He graduated from Brandon University with a Bachelor of Science and later from the University of Manitoba with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine. He is fluent in both English and Farsi.
Dr. Kian loves interacting with his patients and seeing how he can provide them with the best dental care and address all of their concerns. He is known for his calm, kind and outgoing demeanor and loves all aspects of dentistry.
Dr. Kian is an avid traveller - next time you see him in the office, make sure to ask him about his recent travels!
Dr. Americo Fernandes (DMD)
If you have been coming to this clinic, you might know who Dr. Fernandes is as he has been the long-time owner of Dr. Fernandes Family Dentistry and Implant Center.
Dr. Fernandes graduated from the University of Manitoba College of Dentistry in 1984 and has been practicing dentistry ever since. He has a specialized interest in implant dentistry and has been the trailblazer for dental implants here in Manitoba.
Dr. Fernandes has always prioritized his patients and takes pride in making lifelong relationships. Since he has been practicing, he has seen families from grandparents all the way to their grandchildren. This just goes to show how well he takes care of his patients and how important his relationships are.
In addition to dentistry, Dr. Fernandes frequently travels back to his home country of Portugal so make sure you ask him about his travels. His favourite sport is soccer and his favourite team is FC Porto so make sure you wear an FC Porto jersey when you visit him! He is also fluent in English and Portuguese.

Jennifer
Registered Dental Assistant
Jen was born in Calgary, but grew up in Richmond before moving to Winnipeg when she was 9 years old. She graduated with honours and earned her certificate as a Registered Dental Assistant from Red River College in 2015. She is fluent in both English and Vietnamese. Jen loves to interact with patients and strives to ensure patient comfort while in the chair. She is known for her conversations about food and her obsession with BTS, so if you’re a fan, make sure to let Jen know. Outside of the clinic, she values a balance between enjoying her favourite foods and maintaining a healthy lifestyle by going to the gym.
Celine
Registered Dental Assistant
Celine earned her certification with honours as a Certified Dental Assistant from Red River College in 2018. Upon her completion, Celine has worked in the dental field involving General Dentistry and Oral Surgery. She is detail oriented and finds satisfaction in helping patients achieve their needs as well as provide comfort at every visit. Continuing education is one of her priorities to help ensure that she is caught up on the current dental developments and application to practice. In her free time, she loves to travel, is a huge music geed as she loves attending concerts and is also a big fan of the Baltimore Ravens!

Casandra
Registered Dental Hygienist
Cas brings a unique, but important role to Amelo Dental. She used to be a dental assistant, but has now become a dental hygienist. Cas has been in the dental field since 2017 and graduated with high honours from the Toronto College of Dental Hygiene and Auxiliaries Inc. Cas is known for her gentle and charismatic nature. You will often find her asking patients to teach her something as she loves to learn. She particularly enjoys learning Portuguese and hopes to add it to her myriad of languages that she knows as she is fluent in Ilonggo, Tagalog and English. When she is not working, you can find Cas doing one of her many hobbies such as pilates, swimming, hot yoga, running and eating new foods. Cas is also an avid traveller and if she’s not in Winnipeg, you can most likely find her in one of the 7000+ islands of the Philippines.
Victoria
Registered Dental Hygienist
Victoria graduated in 2024 from a Dental Hygiene school in Mississauga. She enjoys meeting new people and connecting with her patients. She strives to provide individualized and optimal dental hygiene therapy while explaining the importance of good oral health. Victoria is fluent in both English and Portuguese and is excited to be giving back to her community. In her free time, Victoria enjoys reading, going to the gym and volunteering in the community.

Nat
Patient Coordinator
If you have been coming to this practice for a while, you have probably seen Nat as she has been part of this practice for 30 years! Her eclectic personality is one you cannot miss as she brings lots of life to the practice. Her relationships with patients are unmatched and she makes sure that you feel welcomed the moment you step into the office. When she is not busy working, you can find Nat doing yoga, watching the Winnipeg Jets, cooking, spending time with family and going to the lake. Nat is fluent in both English and Portuguese. Come say hi as it is never a dull moment with Nat!
Meagan
Patient Coordinator
Meagan loves the colour pink. In addition to her pink scrubs, she brightens the office in more ways than one with her bubbly personality, positive attitude and her interpersonal communication skills. Her professionalism is exemplified as Meagan was previously working in customer service for 10 years in retail management. Meagan believes that the best part of her role is making connections with every patient, as well as making them feel welcomed and comfortable. Outside of work, Meagan enjoys working out at her local gym, going out for coffee to satisfy her caffeine cravings, or staying in to read a novel.
